How to clear the certificate error in the Chromebook "Chrome RDP" application.
Last Updated 4 years ago

Sometimes, you may experience a certificate error connecting to the remote desktop server. The error says "The server certificate for [servername]:3389 does not match the known user accepted certificate."

To clear the certificate that is stored in the Chrome RDP application and reset it, you can follow the steps explained in the error message, or follow these steps.

Open the Chrome RDP application, and click the "Options" link.
Chrome RDP app -- Options
In the Options window that appears, click on the Certificate tab, click on the "Delete All Certificates" button at the bottom of the window. You will be prompted to confirm you want to delete the certificates ... Click OK.

Options -- Certificate -- Delete
Now you can reconnect to the Remote Desktop Server and after you enter your username and password, you will get message that "the certificate cannot be verified, do you want to accept it?" Click Continue and you should successfully connect to the server.

NOTE: The preferred server name is rdp.kcsd.k12.pa.us, but aspen.kcsd.k12.pa.us or odp.kcsd.k12.pa.us also work -- it all goes to the same server now.
