How Do I Correctly Configure the 3CX Phone Application?
Last Updated 3 years ago

The 3CX phone application operates in two different fashions. It is able to manage the physical phones placed in the rooms and it is able to operate independent of the physical phone to make and receive calls utilizing the district phone system. Below you will find key factors that will distinguish and explain the differences.

Physical Phone Control

The 3CX system allows for users to manipulate a physical phone via the 3CX phone application.

The image to the right shows the 3CX application as it appears when configured to control a physical phone. This is designated by the "Phone" icon in the red section.

These setting will result in the following actions:
  • Phone calls placed with dial DIRECTLY on the physical phone.
  • Audio will be broadcasted through the physical phone NOT LOCAL COMPUTER OR CELL PHONE SYSTEM.
If you are using the app outside of the school district, see the next section concerning using the app as an independent "Softphone" Control.

Independent "Softphone" Control

The 3CX system allows for users to create a phone independent from the physical phone, which is meant to be utilized outside of the school district and/or while away from your physical phone.

The image to the right shows the 3CX application as it appears when configured to create what is referred to as a "Softphone". This is designated by the "Phone" icon in the red section.

**IF YOU DO NOT SEE THIS ICON, CLICK ON THE PHONE AND SELECT "SOFTPHONE"**

These setting will result in the following actions
  • Phone calls placed with dial directly from your device.
  • Audio will be broadcasted through the device in which the app is installed. The system will utilize the device's local microphone and speakers for the calls.
